the after raya

raya holidays have ended. work has started. how was your raya? hope you had a good time with your loved ones.
so yesterday i started puasa nam. my parents also did. well actually i never really thought of puasa nam but since i had rice for dinner the night before, i felt guilty. the lauks were sardine, ulam2 rebus, sayur rebus, ikan masin and sambal tempoyak. yes, it may sound simple but with this kind of lauk, it is more dangerous because everything tasted so nice so i tend to have 2nd (and maybe 3rd) helpings of rice. i don't do puasa nam, to be honest. but then i thought, why not give it a try. why wait until the very last minute to ganti puasa, like this year. i only finished ganti puasa 3 days before ramadhan started. very last minute, kan? bad.
anyhow i managed to get 2 days of puasa nam already, yeay! *clap clap* but it's hard to puasa with people around you eating and munching. i may or may not puasa tomorrow. we shall see how. we still have a number of days of Syawal left anyway.

ucapan raya

custom-made or ready-made?

it is that time of the year again-RAYA! ok, almost.
what is raya without new clothes, right ladies (and gentlemen)? during my trip to Bukittinggi, Indonesia early this year, i bought 3 pieces of materials for raya. two pieces are for baju kurung and one piece for kebaya. but guess what? to date, i have yet to send them to the tailor. mum has been asking me to send it to the tailor way before the fasting month but i delayed and waited and procrastinated so now padan muka sendiri. i can bet that no tailor will accept my order. i guess the materials will have to wait for raya haji.
luckily, there are a lot of ready-made baju kurungs available almost everywhere. phew~ looks like i'm gonna have to settle with buying one (or two, or three) of the ready-made ones. kalau pandai cari, pandai pilih, memang cantik. but the thing that worries me is that everywhere they are selling the same kind. by the same kind i mean the same design, colour and pattern. so what are the odds that you will be wearing the same piece of baju kurung with the others? to make it worst, it is the exact same design, colour and pattern. now that would be really freaky and odd (and embarrassing?). the thing about buying ready-made baju kurung is that it is not exclusive.
how would you react or handle a situation if you go to someone's house and bump into another person wearing the same exact piece? would you try to avoid that person? or would you just sit in the car or run to the toilet and hide? or how about taking a picture together and ask people "who wears it better?"
i think the male lot have it very much easier than us ladies when it comes to bajus. i am sure they wouldn't mind bumping into another person who is wearing the same exact baju melayu with them, right?

unplanned plan

sometimes, an unplanned plan, or a spontaneous plan is very much better than a planned plan. sometimes we tend to plan too much but in the end, it may not work out. yesterday, i had a berbuka puasa plan with a few friends at NZ Garden. i wanted to leave the office at 530ish but it rained cats and dogs. i knew I'm gonna be stuck in traffic. my office mates also had a plan of their own but all of us were 'stranded' due to the really bad weather.
so each of us cancelled our plans and went to KLCC for buka puasa instead. it was a spontaneous decision. crossing the road to KL Convention Center with umbrellas in hand doesn't really help. we were almost drenched because it was windy. luckily our umbrellas didn't fly off or else we would've become Mary Poppins. To kill time (which seem to move ever so sowly when one is super duper hungry), we took pics.

Kak Lin and I

Kak Rina and Zura

we were already seated at the food court at 630pm and we had a hard time deciding what to eat. eventually, this was what we had:

Beef Noodle and Iced Coffee for me

Zura had Claypot Chicken & Mushroom Rice

Rina had Salmon Teppanyaki and Watermelon Juice

Kak Lin had Chicken Briyani and Iced Tea

The crowd waiting for azan

It was a simple but nice buka puasa. we did plan to have a buka puasa session among us office mates but it is not until next week or the following week but what the heck. like i said, sometimes, an unplanned plan is very much better than planned plans.

don't push it

i get really annoyed when people push the elevator button one too many times, especially when the button is already pushed. seriously, pushing or in most cases, poking the button will not make the elevator come down or up faster. i am not sure if there is a thing called elevator etiquette but i think there should be. what i notice is that when a group of people get into the elevator, they will continue their talk, oblivious to the surrounding. we are already confined in a small space, standing too close to each other, smelling each other (euuuwww) and holding our breaths. the condition is already uncomfortable so the last thing i want to do is to hear you talk and gossip with your friends (even though sometimes i don't understand a word you say because you were speaking in your language but still).
same goes to the traffic light button. pushing the button many times will not make the light turn red (for the cars to stop, if at all) and the crossing light green (for the pedestrians to cross) anytime faster. if it has been pushed, why the need to push and push it again? i just don't get it.
how would you feel if you were poked at? and no, i am not referring to the facebook poke.

too close for comfort

One of the (many) things that pisses me off is when some people stand a bit too close for comfort to me. By people, I mean total stranger(s). For instance, when queuing up at an ATM. why the hell do you have to stand so close to me? it's not like i have millions in my account. or it's not like i'm stealing the bank's money. duhhh. it really annoys the hell out of me when i can literally feel and smell (euuuuuwwwwwwww) the breath of the person standing behind me. more often than not, it is not a pleasant smell. even if it smells like peppermint, i would feel like puking. like, seriously. not only that, when i turn around, i will most likely bump into them or step onto their shoes. the worst part is, some of these idiots would give me 'the look' as if i was wrong for bumping into them. helloooo...why do you have to stand so close to me in the first place anyway? unless you're a hunk with a 6-pack who smells like Dunhill Desire Red or Hugo Boss No. 6, then i wouldn't mind.

btw, this not only happens at the ATM. it happens anywhere and everywhere that requires a queue. heck, it even happens in court. bleugh~

i need your favor

i know i have to deal with a lot of people in my line of work. sometimes i cannot help but feel annoyed with some people's attitude but since i know i need their favor, i need something from them, i had to put on a thick skin and a fake smile because i know if i don't do this, they will not give me what i wanted, when they very well should in the first place.
no, i am not talking about the people in court. that shall be a different post altogether, if at all.
what i'm talking about here is the parking attendants around my office. getting a parking is a big challenge which i have to deal with every single day. and then there's the parking attendants who would take their own sweet time to give you the ticket or to lift the barrier. sometimes when i have entered the parking area, that's when they will tell me that it's full so i had to reverse my car. can't they put up a sign saying that it's full or install a device which will automatically light up when it's full? trust me, it is very annoying.
yesterday, when i was about to exit the parking, i gave the old man (this old man's shift started at 7pm) a 50 ringgit note for a parking fee that costs 7 ringgit. then he looked at me and said "you don't have small change?" i replied, "sorry i don't have" i don't know what got into him which made him said, "you always give me big change. i know you have small change. you just don't want to give it to me." i told him again that i don't have small change. then he continued by saying, "i know you have. you should give to me. this is the difference between a civilized person and an uncivilized person." i was like, what the hell is wrong with this old man? if i had small change, say 10 ringgit, why would i be giving him 50 ringgit? i almost answered him back but i controlled myself simply because:

a. he is an old man, say in his 70s;
b. i was fasting;
c. if i answered him back, i'm scared that he won't allow me park there anymore after this;
d. he may not lift the barrier up for me; and
e. it is already past 7 and i want to go home to break fast.

it really tested my patience. it really did.

morning faces

i know i am not the only one having trouble waking up in the morning, one who wished that the alarm wouldn't go off so soon and one who hits the snooze button one too many times. like it or not, we have to eventually wake up and go to work. every time the alarm goes off, i would curse myself for not sleeping earlier the night before.
i am not a morning person and i know many people aren't too. i need about half an hour or more to get all perked up before i can really start the day. the half hour starts when i'm already in the office, by the way. i will try to minimize all contacts as much as i can. at least until 10 am. but if i have to attend court in the morning, that's a different story altogether.
the thing is, as much as i have morning blues, Monday blues, Tuesday blues and whatnot, i try my very best not to show it on my face. however, on some rare mornings, and by rare, i mean very rare, i would feel like i'm on top of the world, like i'm all set and ready to take the world. and then i bump into someone with a face so sour and i can literally feel the bad and negative aura coming out of that person and there goes my mood for the day. i mean, hello, everybody has their fair share of bad mornings, sometimes we do wake up on the wrong side of the bed or probably the night before you had a fight with your partner whatsoever (this is not applicable in my case) but seriously, do you have to show it on your face? do you have to tell the whole world that you are having a problem, that you are cranky and everything? ok fine you can go show it to the world but please do not show it to me. whenever i see someone's face so down, i tend to feel down as well and my mood for the day would be ruined. so unless you have a cheery, happy face and a sweet smile (but not cheeky, gatal or gedik smile or sengih please), stay away from me in the morning because you don't want to see me in my cranky mode. like, really, you don't. it is not a nice sight. you have been warned.
